"Our Kentucky Heritage" (512 Pages) (480 Pictures) To Our Families: Both Margaret and I would like to thank you so much for your help over this past year in completing our book about our family history. We appreciate so much you providing all the names, birthdates, places of birth, marriage dates and places of marriage and all the other information you have provided on your families. We would like to also thank you for the beautiful pictures we have received of your families. Our book is now completed. We have included all the information you have sent us on your family and included over 480 pictures of all your families in our book. The book kept expanding and we kept reformatting it all during the year as we got additional information. We began thinking the size would be a small book or 6 x 9, we then expanded it to 7 x 10 and eventually it wound up being 8 ½ by 11 and being 512 pages. It is a hardback book which was necessary because of the number of pages. The cover is a hard cover Cloth Bound Library Binding in Blue and has gold printing on the spine of the book. To give you an indication of what is included in the book we will tell you what is included in the various chapters. 1. There is a chapter on the history of Pineville and Bell County. 2. There is a chapter on the Early Settlers and the Cumberland Gap which includes many of our ancestors. 3. There is a chapter about the Farming Industry in Bell County as many of our families were farmers. 4. There is a chapter about the Coal Industry in Bell County as many of our families were coal miners. 5. There is a chapter about the Lumber and Timber Industry in Bell County as many of our families did this for a living. 6. There is a chapter called Growing Up in Bell County which describes what life was like as our families and ourselves grew up there. 7. We then have a narrative about each of our lives which each of us has written about ourselves which tells all about us as we grew up. 8. We have a narrative about our lives together which covers our 40 years together and things of interest about our family. 9. We then have a narrative about each of our children which describes them and their families and the kind of people they are. 10. We then have a narrative about each one of our parents which tells about them and all the memories we have of them. We have accumulated this from our own memories and memories our brothers and sisters have of them and have included their memories as well. 11. We then have a narrative about each of our grandparents and our memories of them. We have also included memories that our brothers and sisters have of them as well. 12. Margaret has included narratives about each of her brothers and sisters. 13. Bob has included each of his Aunts and Uncles and their families as he does not have any brothers and sisters. All of the above chapters about our history include pictures scattered throughout the chapters that show our families as we talk about them and pictures about the area we grew up in. There is a separate page for each of the families that we were able to obtain with all the birthdates, marriage dates listing their children with all of their dates. Each page has a picture of the family at the bottom of the page. Each of our families has been traced back as far as we can trace them and each generation have a page of their own. Some families have been traced back to the time they came to America and even before and have the same dates and other information if we have been able to get them. Naturally we do not have pictures of some of our earlier families, but we have been able to accumulate some pictures of several of our great great grandparents. but you will be able to trace each one of the families back and see when they were born, were married, and how many children they had. You will be able to see where they lived and died. We have been able to find out some interesting information on many of our earlier families and have included this on their pages as well. 14. We have also included some interesting information about our Cherokee Indian Connections and have found 10 different connections to the Cherokee Indians and have a couple of chapters about these connections. We have also found that our family lines have crossed 12 times in the past and show these connections. Both families are all actually related, through these 12 lines. We have been working on this book for over a year now and have pulled together all the information we can to make this as complete as possible. Unfortunately we both have very large families and many of these families have not kept in touch with each other as they should. Therefore there have been some families that we have not been able to contact as we do not know how to get in touch with them, and we have relied on other relatives to provide what information we have been able to get about them and their children. Unfortunately there have been a few families who did not want to provide any information about their families and wanted to be excluded, and we have respected their wishes. It has been such an exciting time for us this past year talking to so many of our family members that we have not talked to in years in order to gather the information about our ancestors.
